Zoo Zajac, the world's largest pet shop in Duisburg, Germany, has filed for insolvency. Sarah Wolf of Anchor Rechtsanwälte has been appointed as provisional administrator. The business, which employs around 150 people, will continue to operate as normal.
The main reasons for the insolvency are said to be the sharp rise in the cost of raw materials, transport and energy. New business ideas following the unexpected death of company founder Norbert Zajac and the arrival of Ernst-Otto von Drachenfels as second managing director alongside Kathi Geven had apparently not led to the desired success. After an initial period of stabilisation, the insolvency administrator is now looking for a potential investor.
